GWU Women's Golf in Third-Place After Day One of the 2013 Big South Championships

Ninety Six, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team carded a team score of 306, +18, on round one of the 2013 Big South Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting on Sunday, April 14th, to put the Runnin' Bulldogs in third-place overall in the team standings after day one of play at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
Leading the way for the Runnin' Bulldogs on Sunday was senior Meghan Allum who recorded a first round of 74, +2, to put herself in a tie at seventh-place overall. Allum, who carded a score of 37 on both the front nine and the back nine, finished with three birdies and 10 pars overall over the 18 holes of play.
Fellow four-year competitor Hannah Hellyer turned in a solid first round of play on Sunday for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as she finished the first 18 holes of play with a score of 76, +4, good enough to place her in a tie for 10th-place overall. Hellyer posted two birdies overall, one on both the front nine and the back nine, while also registering 11 pars in her opening round of play at the tournament.
Both senior Lauren Smith and freshman Mary Katherine Donovan turned in first round scores of 78, +6, to sit in a tie at 17th-place overall after day one of play. Smith shot 13 pars over her first 18-holes of play, while Donovan recorded 11 pars and one birdie over the first round.
Senior Sammy Vass rounded out the field for GWU on day one, as she carded a first round 85, +13, to finish Sunday's first round of play in a tie at 40th-place overall.
Gardner-Webb is nine strokes behind No. 34 Campbell, who sits in second-place with a team score of 297, +9, and 14 shots behind first round leader No. 39 Coastal Carolina who sits atop the team leaderboard with a score of 292, +4.
Gardner-Webb, along with the rest of the tournament field, will tee-off the second round of play on Monday morning, April 15th, starting at approximately 8 a.m. eastern time.
