
Runnin' Bulldogs Sit in Third-Place Overall With One Round to Play at the 2013 Big South Championships

Ninety Six, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team remained in third-place overall in the team standings, as the Runnin' Bulldogs carded a team score of 310, +22, on the second round of play on Monday at the 2013 Big South Women's Golf Championships presented by Musco Sports Lighting hosted by Presbyterian College at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
Gardner-Webb followed up its first round 306, +18, on Sunday with a team score of 310, +22, on Monday to keep a tight hold on third-place with a two-round combined team score of 616, +40, heading into the final round of play on Tuesday, April 16th.
For the second straight day, the Runnin' Bulldogs were led by senior Meghan Allum who posted a GWU low round of 75, +3, to give her a two-round combined score of 149, +5, and put her in fifth-place overall. Allum posted a birdie on the very first hole and then recored13 pars over the next 17 holes of play on Monday.
Allum is five strokes out of the lead, as both Brittany Henderson and Lena Schaeffner are tied for first-place overall with a combined score of 144, even par, through two rounds of play.
Freshman Mary Katherine Donovan carded a second straight round of 78, +6, to move into a tie at 22nd-place overall with her two-round score of 156, +12. Donovan posted one birdie and 10 pars overall on day two of play.
Tied with Donovan and a host of others at 22nd-place overall is senior Hannah Hellyer, who's second round 80, +8, on Monday coupled with her first round 76, +4, on Sunday, gives her a combined a score of 156, +12. Hellyer tallied 12 pars over the 18-holes of the second round of play.
Fellow senior Lauren Smith carded a second round score of 79, +7, to place her in a tie at 25th-place overall with a two-round combined score of 157, +13, while senior Sammy Vass bounced back from a first round 85, +13, to shoot a second round 78, +6, on Tuesday to move into at tie at 36th-place overall her combined two-round score of 163, +19.
No. 39 nationally ranked Coastal Carolina, who is in first-place with a combined team score of 588, +12, after two rounds of play, is holding on to a slight one stroke lead over the No. 34 nationally ranked Campbell Fighting Camels who shot a team-low round of 292, +4, on Tuesday to give them a two-round combined team score of 589, +13, heading into the third and final round of play on Tuesday morning.
While the Runnin' Bulldogs are 26 strokes behind the leader in Coastal Carolina, GWU is only four strokes in front of Charleston Southern (620, +44), who is in fourth-place overall, and five strokes ahead of Longwood (621, +45), who is in fifth-place.
The first wave of student-athletes will tee-off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, April 16th, for the third and final round of play at the 2013 Big South Women's Golf Championships. Gardner-Webb is set to tee-off starting at 8:50 a.m.
