Seniors Smith and Allum Lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a Seventh-Place Finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate

Morganton, N.C. - Gardner-Webb seniors Lauren Smith and Meghan Allum each placed in a tie at 12th-place overall to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a seventh-place team finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State at the Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs posted back-to-back team rounds of 317 to finish in seventh-place overall with a combined two-round team score of 634, +58.
The host Mountaineers took first-place overall with their two-round combined team score of 610, +34, finishing 10 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Winthrop (620, +44) and 19 shots in front of both Jacksonville State (629, +53) and Wofford (629, +53) who finished tied in third-place overall.
Smith, who led after day one of play with a first round score of 73, +1, carded a second round 83, +11, on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 12th-place overall with her combined score of 156, +12.
Matching Smith's 156, +12, and 12th-place finish was Allum, who turned in back-to-back rounds of 78, +6, to also finish in a tie at 12th-place overall.
Fellow senior Hannah Hellyer posted rounds of 79 and 81 to finish with a combined two-day final score of 160, +16, good enough to place in a tie at 24th overall, while freshman Mary Katherine Donovan finished in a tie at 42nd-place overall with her two-day combined score of 165, +21.
Rounding out the field for the Runnin' Bulldogs squad was senior Sammy Vass, who registered rounds of 87 and 80 to finish in a tie at 47th-place overall with her combined score of 167, +23, over the two-rounds of play.
Playing as an individual, junior Pilar Morgan finished with a combined score of 165, +21, of her own over the two-day event to also place in a tie at 42nd-place overall.
Gardner-Webb's seventh-place finish was ahead of Presbyterian College (8th), Bethune-Cookman (9th), Radford (10th), The Citadel (11th) and Sandhills Community College (12th).
The women's golf team will return to action in two weeks when the Runnin' Bulldogs will tee-off at the 2013 Big South Women's Golf Championship hosted by Presbyterian College at The Patriot Golf Club at Ninety Six, S.C. on April 14-16th.
