Gardner-Webb Scores Big South Win over Presbyterian, 6-1, at Home on Monday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs won every match in which it participated on Monday to score a key Big South win over Presbyterian College, a 6-1 triumph at the Webb Tennis Complex.
GWU's Jenny Lunde and Erica White picked up their seventh consecutive doubles wins to get the squad rolling, taking an 8-3 match at the No. 1 spot over Patricia Alves/Gardiner. Despite not fielding a No. 3 doubles team, the Runnin' Bulldogs Yasmin Doost/Rokia Sacko sealed the doubles point at No. 2, winning 8-4 over Presbyterian's DeLoach/Stanford pairing.
Up 1-0 entering singles play, Gardner-Webb (6-10, 2-5 Big South) won quickly at No.'s 5, 1, and 2 singles to ensure there would be no comeback from the Blue Hose on Monday. Sacko (Montreal, Canada) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lindsay Krauser at No. 5, White (Charleston, W.Va.) bested Greer Ransom 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 position, and Doost (Bray, Maidenhead, England) outlasted Alves by a 6-3, 6-2 margin at the No. 2 spot.
With the match decided in Gardner-Webb's favor, Lunde and Valeriia Popko were able to battle to pick up singles wins against the Blue Hose. Lunde prevailed 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 at No. 3, and Popko (St. Petersburg, Russia) pulled away from Gardiner 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.
Presbyterian won by default at No. 6 singles to round out the scoring.
GWU's women's tennis team will look to win two in a row at home on Wednesday when the Runnin' Bulldogs host Charlotte in non-conference action. Wednesday's tilt with the 49ers is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
