GWU Men's Golf Sits in Seventh-Place After Day One of Play at the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship on Sunday

Ninety Six, S.C. - Gardner-Webb carded a team round of 309, +21, on the first round of play at the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship on Sunday hosted by Gardner-Webb University at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
Gardner-Webb's team score of 309, +21, has the Runnin' Bulldogs in seventh-place overall on the team leaderboard. The Runnin' Bulldogs are four strokes behind Presbyterian College who sits in sixth-place overall at 305, +17.
Leading the way for Gardner-Webb on day one was senior Daniel Kim, who carded a first round 74, +2, on Sunday to put him a tie at eighth-place overall. Kim posted four birdies on the day, two each on both the front and back nine, while also registering 10 pars over the first 18-holes of play.
Sophomore Matt Yelverton carded four birdies and seven pars en route to his first round score of 76, +4, to finished day one in a tie at 15th-place overall, while redshirt-junior Daley Byles turned in a round of 79, +7, on Sunday to sit in a tie at 28th-place overall. Byles had one birdie on the day.
Rounding out the field for GWU on Sunday was freshman Elki Kow, who tallied two birdies and seven pars on his way to a first round 80, +8, to place in a tie at 36th-place overall, while junior Steven Jones posted a first round 82, +10, to finish day one in a tie at 43rd-place overall.
No. 39 nationally ranked and defending champions Liberty shot a combined team score of 294, +6, to lead the team standings after day one of play, while Coastal Carolina sits in second-place overall with its team score of 296, +8.
The second round of the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship is slated to tee-off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbour.
