
Yelverton Posts Top-10 Finish, as the Runnin' Bulldogs Finish Sixth Overall at the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship

Ninety Six, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team carded a third round team score of 302, +14, on Tuesday to take sixth-place overall in the team standings with its final three-round combined score of 917, +53, at the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship from April 21-23 hosted by Gardner-Webb University at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C.
GWU posted team rounds of 309, 306 and 302 over the three rounds of play en route to its final team score of 917, +53.
Sophomore Matt Yelverton and senior Daniel Kim each tallied a score of 74, +2, on Tuesday over the final round of play.
Yelverton, who carded eight birdies and 31 pars over the 54-hole event, finished with rounds of 76, 75 and 74 to give him a combined three-round score of 225, +9, good enough to place him in the top-10 overall at ninth-place.
Kim posted rounds of 74, 81 and 74 to finish in a tie for 22nd-place overall with his three-day combined score of 229, +13. The senior also recorded eight birdies to go along with his team-high 34 pars over the three rounds of play.
In his first-ever Big South Championship Tournament event, freshman Elki Kow carded rounds of 80, 75 and 77 to finish with a three-round combined score of 232, +16, and in a tie at 31st-place overall. Kow turned in a team-high 10 birdies, as well as a team-best par-5 scoring average of 4.67, -4 under par, for the event.
Redshirt-junior Daley Byles, who also tallied eight birdies over the three rounds of play, registered rounds of 79, 75 and 82 to finish with a combined score of 236, +20 and in a tie at 39th-place overall, while fellow Runnin' Bulldog teammate Steven Jones recorded rounds of 82, 82 and 77 to finish in a tie for 44th-place overall with his final tournament score of 241, +25.
Gardner-Webb's sixth-place finish was ahead of both Presbyterian and Campbell, who finished tied at seventh-place overall in the team standings with their final three-round combined team score of 918, +54.
High Point finished ninth overall with their tournament score of 930, +66, placing ahead of Longwood who turned in a 10th-place finish with a three-round combined team score of 942, +78.
Coastal Carolina edged Liberty in a very tight race over the final few holes in the team results, as the Chanticleers took first-place overall with its final team score of 881, +17. Liberty finished in second-place and only two strokes behind Coastal Carolina at 883, +19, while Winthrop (891, +27) and Radford (906, +42) took third and fourth-place, respectively.
Liberty's Mathieu Fenasse earned top honors for the event, as he posted rounds of 75, 70 and 66 to win the event with a final score of 211, -5 under par.
Joining Mathieu Fenasse on the inaugural Big South All-Championship Team was top-five finishers Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina, Ross Thomson of Charleston Southern, Andrew Dorn of Coastal Carolina and Mac McKay of Liberty.
