Gardner-Webb's Kim and Yelverton Earn Big South Postseason Honors
April 23, 2013 | Men's Golf
Ninety Six, S.C. - Gardner-Webb senior Daniel Kim was named to the Big South Men's Golf All-Conference Team, while sophomore Matt Yelverton earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team, it was announced today by the League office at the conclusion of the final round of the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship.
Kim's All-Conference selection was the fourth of his career and puts him in elite company as one of only nine Big South men's golfers to be named as a four-time All-Conference honoree. Kim, along with Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina, joins Duane Bock of Campbell, Paul Tomlinson of Winthrop, Kevin Pendley of Winthrop, Brad Hastings of Coastal Carolina, Matt Johnson of Winthrop, Dustin Johnson of Coastal Carolina and Robert Karlsson of Liberty as the only four-time All-Conference men's golf honorees in Big South history.
The senior from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, finished in a tie at
22nd-place overall with a three-round combined score of 229, +13,
at the 2013 Big south Men's Golf Championship Tournament having
posted a 14th-place finish or better in each of the previous three
years. Kim posted back-to-back top-five finishes at the Big South
Championship in the previous two years, as he recorded a
second-place finish last season after finishing in fourth-place
back in 2011.
This season, Kim was the top-GWU performer in eight of the Runnin' Bulldogs 13 tournaments on the year and recorded seven top-10 finishes on the season, which included a first-place finish at the Raines Development Intercollegiate and a third-place showing at the GWU versus HPU Duals.
Yelverton, who finished in a tie at ninth-place overall with his
three-round combined score of 225, +9, at the 2013 Big South Men's
Golf Championship, was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.
The sophomore, who has a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point
average during his time at GWU, played in all 13 events for the
Runnin' Bulldogs on the season, tallying six top-25 finishes
overall. Yelverton, who took first-place overall at the Raines
Development Intercollegiate in the fall, carded a season-low round
of 67. He also helped Gardner-Webb to six top-10 team finishes
overall, which included team wins at both the Raines Development
Intercollegiate and at the Keith Hills Invitational.
