Fraudin, Barnett Earn Big South Conference Postseason Accolades
May 21, 2013 | Baseball
Fraudin (Upper St. Clair, Pa. / Upper St. Clair) earned a spot on the All-Big South Conference first team and junior Andrew Barnett (High Point, N.C. / High Point Christian) earned a spot on the league's All-Academic Team.
Fraudin finished the regular season with a solid 7-5 record and an impressive 2.99 ERA in 14 starts. The big righty led the Big South with 94 strikeouts and was second on the circuit with 99.1 innings pitched. Fraudin tossed a team-high three complete games - all in league play - and was at his best in the final start of the regular season.
With Gardner-Webb needing a pair of wins to secure postseason action, Fraudin hurled a complete-game, four-hitter against Presbyterian on May 16. He struck out a career-high 11 batters, and retired 19 of the final 21 batters he faced - allowing just one single after the first inning. Of the four hits Fraudin allowed - all singles - two didn't leave the infield.
Fraudin also went the distance in league play against Winthrop and Longwood.
Barnett, also a standout pitcher, carries a 3.83 cumulative GPA in computer science, and has enjoyed a breakout season on the mound.
The junior righty enters postseason play with a 5-2 record, a sparkling 3.08 ERA and 90 strikeouts in just 84.2 innings of work. Barnett has a pair of complete game shutouts under his belt, blanking Dayton and Stony Brook.
He earned Big South Conference and Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors in mid-April after striking out a career-high 14 without a walk in a 5-1 win over UNC Asheville. That strikeout effort was the first of two double digit performances in as many weeks and was part of a string of 40 strikeouts without a walk issued in the month of April.
Barnett has 51 strikeouts and only four walks allowed over his last six starts. He has walked only 16 batters in his 14 starts this season.
Fraudin will take the hill on Tuesday for Gardner-Webb against No. 3 High Point at Liberty Baseball Stadium. First pitch will be 45 minutes following the conclusion of Tuesday's 9:30 am opener between No. 2 Coastal Carolina and No. 7 Longwood.
Barnett is expected to pitch for the Runnin' Bulldogs on Wednesday.
