
Gardner-Webb 2013 Signee Takes Second at the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bells Girls' Tour Open Championship

Salisbury, N.C. - Gardner-Webb women's golf 2013 signee Sarah Bertram of Concord, N.C. posted a second-place finish at the 2013 Open Championship of the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls' Golf Tour held at the historic Donald Ross Course at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C.
In the third major tournament of the 2013 season for the Tour, in which there was a record-breaking 118 entries with participants hailing from nine different states, Bertram carded rounds of 81, 69 and 70 to finish in second-place overall for the open with her three round combined score of 220, +7. Bertram's third round of 70, -1 under par, tied the leader and eventual winner of the event, Jillian Hollis of Rocky River, Ohio, for the lowest round of play over the final round of action.
Hollis won the Bell Division with a new tournament record three-day total of 213, even par, for the Open Championship.
The tournament field was strong, as it included 11 event champions from the 2013 season, 16 of the top-500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, 28 players ranked inside the top-100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, as well as the defending 2012 PKBGT Open Championship Bell Division Champion.
With her top-three finish, Bertram received an exemption into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions, which is being held on the North Course at the Moss Creek Country Club in Hilton Head, S.C. in September.
