Perkins and Young Record Top 5 Finishes to Lead the Runnin' Bulldogs at the Bob Pollock Invitational

Clemson, S.C. - Alex Young put up top 5 finishes in three different throwing events and Sarah Perkins placed fourth in the 200 m dash to lead Gardner-Webb track & field's performance at the third annual Bob Pollock Invitational, hosted by Clemson University.
Alex Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) placed third in the men's hammer throw on Friday, achieving a distance of 58.89 m (193' 2"). The freshman, whose performance in the hammer throw was second only to Dennis Mahmic's (Virginia Tech) 62.05 m among collegiate throwers, has also been a consistent competitor in discus throw and the shot put all Outdoor season for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
In the discus throw, Young and fellow freshman A.J. White (Hurricane, W.Va.) placed 5th and 6th respectively. Young threw 45.41 m (149' 0") and White tossed 43.06 m (141' 3") in the event.
Young tacked on a 4th place finish in the shot put with a 15.40 m (50' 6.25") distance.
Junior Kristen Hurley (Columbia, Conn.) achieved a distance of 5.18 m (17') in the long jump on Saturday, 7th best at the event. Hurley also ran 26.37 in the 200 m dash on Saturday, placing 7th.
Sarah Perkins raced to the 4th fastest time in the women's 200 m dash, crossing the finish line at 25.67. The time for the freshman from Gorham, Maine was nearly a season best, just .01 short of her 25.66 achieved earlier this season at the 49er Classic.
Gardner-Webb's track & field squad is scheduled to competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational May 10-11 in Atlanta, Ga.
