GWU's Alex Young and Sarah Perkins to Compete at 2013 USA Junior National Track & Field Championships

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Two track & field standouts will give Gardner-Webb representation at the 2013 USA Junior National Track & Field Championships, held this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa.
Rising sophomores Alex Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) and Sarah Perkins (Gorham, Maine) met qualifying standards and will each compete on Friday, June 21 at the prestigious meet.
Young, a two-time Big South Champion in his first year as a Runnin' Bulldog, qualified in the men's hammer throw event, having thrown 62.09 m to win the event at 2013 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Perkins also competes Friday afternoon and will look to improve on her top 400 m hurdles time (1:01.75) during prelims. She earned the personal best performance while placing fifth at 2013 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Perkins will compete with a spot in Saturday's finals on the line, while Young competes in finals of the men's hammer throw on Friday.
