
GWU's Carson Sears and Alex Young Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team

New Orleans, La. - The academic honors continue to roll in for Gardner-Webb Track & Field, as throwers Carson Sears and Alex Young each earned individual All-Academic designation from the USTFCCCA.
Academically, student-athletes qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team by holding a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher after the completion of the academic year. Additionally, student-athletes must either have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event (Indoor season) or have participated in any round of the NCAA DIvision I Championships (Outdoor season).
Sears (Suwanee, Ga.) adds USTFCCCA All-Academic status to an impressive career at GWU, a career which includes winning a Big South title in the men's hammer throw as a sophomore. Additionally, Sears currently holds the school record in the hammer throw (64.48 m), was named Big South Track & Field Men's Freshman of the Year, and has recorded six All-Conference performances during his Runnin' Bulldog career.
Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) has been a standout for the GWU track & field team both as a field performer and in the classroom, earning USTFCCCA All-Academic honors following an outstanding freshman season. Young won Big South individual titles in the men's weight throw and the men's hammer throw as a freshman, holds school records in the Outdoor shot put (17.18 m), Indoor shot put (16.52 m), and the weight throw (20.72 m), and earned the right to compete for Team USA and the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships (Medellin, Colombia; August 23-25) in the hammer throw thanks to a second place finish in the event at U.S. Junior Nationals.
