Boiling Springs, N.C. - Coming off its first fall tournament this season on Tuesday, the Gardner-Webb men's golf team will return to the links this weekend to compete at the 2013 Tar Heel Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 7,242-yards UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. on September 14-15th.
The field will be full of elite competition as it includes Boston College, Davidson, Duke, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, N.C. State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and VCU.
The 54-hole tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday, September 14th, and 18 holes of play in the final round on Sunday, September 15th.
After posting a third-place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge this past week, in which GWU had four players post an even par or better on the final day of play, head coach Tee Burton will sent out a line up of Matt Yelverton, Clement Kurniawan, Blake Maum, Steven Jones and Daley Byles.
Yelverton and Kurniawan both posted top-10 finishes at the Golfweek Program Challenge this past week, as both finished under par over the 54-hole event.
Like Yelverton and Kurniawan, both Jones and Byles also competed in GWU's opening tournament, as the two upperclassmen finished in a tie for 11th-place and a tie for 44th-place, respectively.
Maum, a freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., will be making his Gardner-Webb and intercollegiate debut this weekend for Coach Burton.
Last year at the 2012 Tar Heel Intercollegiate, the GWU men's golf team finished in a tie for 10th-plae overall in the 14-team field.
The tournament will open up with a shotgun start on Saturday, September 14th, at 8:30 a.m.
Live scoring will be available on www.Golfstat.com, while a link to the live scoring will also be available on the men's golf schedule page at www.GWUSports.com.
