
Men's Golf to Host Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate on September 23-24th

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team, in collaboration with the High Point men's golf team, will host the Myrtle Beach National Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, September 23-24th in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The men's golf tournament will be played at the Myrtle Beach National West Golf Course, which is a par 72, 6,866 yards, in the heart of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and designed by Arnold Palmer and Frank Duane.
The tournament field will consist of seven teams - Gardner-Webb, High Point, Appalachian State, Longwood, Presbyterian College, Southern Wesleyan, Maryland-Eastern Shore, as well as individuals from neighboring Coastal Carolina.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, who are playing in its third straight fall event next week, will comprise a team of Matt Yelverton, Blake Maum, Clement Kurniawan, Steven Jones and Daley Byles for the second straight event.
Last weekend, the previously mentioned five members combined to shoot a three-round team score of 916, +52, and finish in a 13th-place overall at the star-studded 2013 Tar Heel Intercollegiate.
Yelverton, who paced the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 2013 Tar Heel Intercollegiate, has posted a 10th-place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge and a 33rd-place finish at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate so far this fall season. The junior has posted five rounds of 73 or lower to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs with a stroke average of 73 over the first two events.
GWU's Maum will be playing in only his second ever intercollegiate event next week, as last weekend the freshman posted rounds of 76, 76 and 80 to finish the 54-hole event with a score of 232, +16, and in a tie for 63rd-place overall.
Kurniawan will look to return to the way he played at the Golfweek Program Challenge in early September where he posted a seventh-place finish with rounds of 74, 68 and 70 for a combined score of 212, -4 under par. Last week at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, the sophomore carded rounds of 86, 78 and 74 to finish in 74th-place overall at 238, +22.
Veterans Jones and Byles will again look to anchor the Runnin' Bulldog squad, as the duo are competing in their third straight tournament this year. Jones, who registered an 11th-place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge which included rounds of 73, 71 and 72, has posted a stroke average of 75.33 over his six rounds of play so far this fall. Byles, who also carded a sub-par round of 70 at the Golfweek Program Challenge event, has carded a stroke average of 76.83 so far this fall.
Gardner-Webb will also send sophomore Elki Kow, redshirt-freshman Nick Browning and freshman Vincent Blanchette to the tournament do compete as individuals.
Kow, who played the opening weekend at the Golfweek Program Challenge, carded rounds of 72, 80 and 75 at the 54-hole event to finish in a tie for 52nd-place overall, while Browning will be making his season debut having played in one tournament last spring as an individual for GWU.
Blanchette will be making his debut for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as the Saint-Jean, Quebec, Canada native will be competing in his first-ever intercollegiate event.
The two-day event will go from Monday, September 23rd, to Tuesday, September 24th, with a practice round taking place on Sunday, September 22nd.
