Boiling Springs, N.C. - The basketballs were rolled out for the first full team official practice on Sunday afternoon, as the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team took the court for day one of what will include roughly 30 practices over the next six weeks prior to the first game of the year on November 8th.
In his 10th season at Gardner-Webb University, head coach Rick Reeves, his staff and his 2013-14 squad took the court in Paul Porter Arena at 1 p.m. for its first official practice of the season.
Coach Reeves returns all but one player that dawned a jersey in 2012-13 and a total of 12 players that were on the squad last season, including seniors Jasmine Dale, Catrina Green and Tabby Koerner. Joining the trio of seniors are three other upperclassmen in Jessica Heilig, Mayhana Dunovant and Chariah Harris, who are all in their third season overall for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Sophomores Candace Brown, Lana Doran, Olivia Parker, Alicia Quinn and Olivia Parker all return for their second season for GWU, with much more experience and understanding of the college game as a whole.
Redshirt-freshman Savannah Douglass also returns this season, as the 6-0 forward who missed all of last season due to a knee injury will look to get out on the court for the first time with a chance to compete in her young career at Gardner-Webb.
On top of the 12 returners, Reeves and his staff had three new faces step onto the hardwood for practice on Sunday afternoon in freshmen Kiera Currie, Tierra Huntsman and Christina McQueen.
GWU returns its top-eight scorers from last season, headlined by leading scorers Dale and Green who both averaged over 10 points per game last season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will tip-off the 2013-14 season with a four-game home stand beginning on Friday, November 8th, versus the Montreat College Cavaliers at 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
