Zverkov Wins Two Singles Matches to Lead Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis at Three-Day 49ers Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. - Sophomore Nikita Zverkov won two of his three singles matches as Gardner-Webb competed against three quality teams in Richmond, Campbell, and Charlotte at the three-day 49ers Invitational.
Zverkov (Moscow, Russia) fought off an opening day loss to Campbell's M.C. Visser to grind out a Flight 3 win over Richmond's Dylan Trent, taking that match 7-6 (5), 6-4 on Saturday.
The junior finished off a resilient weekend with a win on Sunday over Charlotte's Alex Calott. Zverkov earned his second win of the weekend by a score of 7-6 (9), 0-6, 7-5.
Zverkov added a doubles win on Sunday as well, teaming with fellow second-year Runnin' Bulldog Benjamin Kaszás (Budapest, Hungary) for an 8-5 triumph against the 49ers' Williams/Edwards pairing.
On Saturday, the duo of Ernest Alberch and Jonathan Walker grabbed a Flight 2 doubles win, combining to knock off the Spiders' Trent/Quenard tandem by an 8-5 margin.
Gardner-Webb's men's tennis is next scheduled to compete at Wofford's Fall Tournament, slated for Saturday, October 12 through Sunday, October 13 in Spartanburg, S.C.
