
Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Competes in First Tournament of the Fall at 2013 Davidson Invitational

Davidson, N.C. - Freshman Catherine White won two matches in Flight No. 6 in her first-ever collegiate tournament, and sophomore Rokia Sacko picked up a tough win at Flight No. 5 as Gardner-Webb competed in its first tournament of the Fall 2013 competition season at the Davidson Invitational.
East Carolina, Campbell, and Davidson were represented along with Gardner-Webb at the Davidson Invitational.
White (Rock Hill, S.C.) won two of her three matches in the No. 6 Flight, first knocking off East Carolina's Dana Gray in a tough 7-6, 3-6 (10-7) match. The Runnin' Bulldog rookie won her second match of the tournament to earn a spot in the Flight 6 championship match, knocking off Courtney McCray (Davidson College) by a 6-0, 6-2 score.
Claudia Ortiz (Campbell) edged White 6-4, 7-6 to win Flight 6.
Sacko (Montreal, Canada) also won her opening match at the Davidson Invitational when she fought off a first-set rally from Samantha Light (East Carolina) to win 7-5, 6-3. Sacko would go on to drop a tough 6-4, 6-2 affair later in the weekend to eventual flight champion Ewa Telenga (Campbell).
Sacko teamed up with Jenny Lunde (Oslo, Norway) for a win over Campbell's Stanic/Ortiz pairing, as the duo held strong late to secure a 9-8 (7-1) win at Flight 2 doubles.
White and sophomore Valeriia Popko (Saint Petersburg, Russia) won at Flight 3 doubles in their only match together, as the pair scored a decisive 8-2 victory over Davidson's Heid/Brunner duo.
Gardner-Webb women's tennis returns to action Friday, September 20 through Sunday, September 22 for the USC Upstate Fall Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
