Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Selected Eighth in Big South Preseason Poll

Charlotte, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - The Big South Conference released its annual preseason poll, based on voting turned in by the Conference's head coaches, and Gardner-Webb was picked to finish in the eighth spot, the League announced today.
GWU will look to a talented group of returners, including senior Jenny Lunde, to field a roster seeking to replace 2013 player of the year Erica White. The Runnin' Bulldogs also return junior Yasmin Doost as well as sophomores Rokia Sacko and Valeriia Popko, who earned valuable experience in their first seasons of collegiate tennis in 2013.
Winthrop (98 points) grabs the top spot in the rankings, followed by Charleston Southern, picked second with 90 total points.
Three teams found themselves clumped in the 3-5 spots, led by Liberty ( points). Campbell (70) and Coastal Carolina (68) followed the Flames in the Big South's preseason voting.
UNC Asheville (47) and Radford (35) preceded Gardner-Webb in the 6th and 7th spots in the poll. The Runnin' Bulldogs received 34 points to sit in the eighth spot, while Presbyterian (17) and Longwood (17) rounded out the preseason poll in a tie for tenth.
Gardner-Webb opens the Spring season at home versus North Carolina A&T on Saturday, February 1.
