FARMVILLE, Va. - Brandi Arey scored her fourth goal of the season and Krista Chauvin recorded a season-high 16 saves, as the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team (4-7-2, 1-2-2 BSC) played to a 1-1 draw at Longwood University (6-6-2, 1-2-1 BSC) in a Big South Conference match on Saturday evening.

Gardner-Webb had a tough time breaking apart the Lancers' defense, as the Runnin' Bulldogs were limited to just four shots, two of which were on goal.

Longwood seemed to be on the offensive attack pretty much the entire evening, as the Lancers fired 41 shots including 17 shots on goal, but could only manage one shot past Chauvin.

Arey scored the lone goal of the game for Gardner-Webb to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Shelby Hooe put a shot on goal, which was saved by  Hailey Machen, but Arey managed to get to the rebound and put the ball into the net.

The Lancers outshot GWU 19-2 in the opening half, but would trail at the halftime break 1-0.

Longwood finally managed to get a shot past Chauvin, as Samantha Phillps headed the ball to Amanda Spencer, who tied the game at one in the 55th minute, as the scored would remain tied at one after regulation.

Gardner-Webb and Longwood combined for eight shots in the two overtime periods, as the game would end in a 1-1 draw.

" Longwood is a very good team and we were fortunate to keep them to one goal, commented head coach Mike Varga. Defensively, we played well and Krista had another incredible match. We compete and played hard for each other, and good things happen when you work hard."

Gardner-Webb returns to the pitch when it hosts Radford on Wednesday (Oct. 15). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
