Gardner-Webb Places in a Tie for Ninth-Place at 2014 Camden Intercollegiate

Camden, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished tied for ninth-place overall with one other school at the 2014 Camden Intercollegiate hosted October 18-19th by the University of South Carolina at the par 70, 6455 yard Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished in a tie for ninth-place overall with rounds of 296, 285 and 301 combined for a total score of 882, +42
Red-shirt sophomore Chris Jones paced Gardner-Webb at the tournament with rounds of 78, 68 and 70 as he finished tied for 17th-place overall with the 54-hole score of 216, +6. After the tough opening round of 78, +8, Jones fought back to finish the event strong going -2 under par in his second round and finishing even par over his last 18 holes. Jones rolled in eight birdies for the Runnin' Bulldogs over the three-day event.
Behind Jones was freshman Jake Kennedy, who finished in tie for 26th-place overall, while sophomore Vincent Blanchette placed in a tie for 32rd-place overall. Kennedy shot rounds of 75, 70 and 75 to turn in a combined score of 220, +10 finishing two strokes ahead of Blanchette and his 54-hole score of 222, +12, carding rounds of 72, 73 and 77. Kennedy finished the tournament with 10 birdies and added an eagle to his scorecard in the second round of play, while Blanchette registered six birdies of his own over the three rounds of play this weekend.
Rounding out the scoring for Gardner-Webb over the event was junior Clement Kurniawan and senior Matt Yelverton. Kurniawan carded rounds of 74, 74 and 80 to finish in a tie for 62nd-place with the combined score of 228, +18, whole Yelverton scored rounds of 75, 77 and 79 to place in a tie for 68th place overall with a total score of 231, +21. Kurniawan posted five birdies and an eagle, while Yelverton turned in four birdies for the tournament.
The University of South Carolina took home first-place overall in the team standings as the host team finished with the low 54-hole score of 847, +7, going -5 under par on the final day of play Sunday to beat out the Wofford Terriers by one stroke.
Wofford did take home the top spot on the individual player leaderboard though with Brannan Hudson medaling by firing rounds of 67, a tournament low round of 63 and 71 tallying up to a final 54-hole score of 201, -9 under par.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will get prepared for its final tournament of the 2014 fall season, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Wendy's Kiawah Challenge on November 2-4th at the Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah, S.C.
