ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb University women's swim team won both of its dual meets on Saturday afternoon as it defeated Marshall and host UNC Asheville at the Justice Center Pool.
The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Marshall by a score of 152-110 and host UNC Asheville, 190-72.
Gardner-Webb had an extremely impressive showing on Saturday afternoon as they took first place honors in 11 of the 14 events that were swam.
Freshman Lauren Oglesby swept both distance swims in the meet, as she won the 500 free with a time of 5:11.44 and the 1,000 free in 10:28.13.
Charity Byrum put together four great swims for the Runnin' Bulldogs, finishing first in the 100 breast (1:05.06), 200 breast (2:23.43), and swam in the 400 free relay (3:34.27) that placed first.
One of the best events of the dual meet for the Runnin' Bulldogs came in the 200 fly, where they swept the top four position, with London Schumacher taking first place (2:10.25), Cjay Wiley (2:12.71) placing second, Adell Kiss (2:15.36) taking third, and Sarah Singleton (2:16.83) rounding out the top four finishers for Gardner-Webb.
Lili Tóth had a great all around meet for GWU, finishing first in the 100 free (52.86) and second in both the 200 free (1:57.02) and the 200 breast (2:25.79). Toth also swam the anchor leg in the 400 free relay that took first place honors.
Giorgie Graves placed first in two events in the dual meet, the 100 fly (57.97) and swam the third leg of the 400 free relay.
April Niccolai rounded out the great showing by the Runnin' Bulldogs on the afternoon, placing first in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.22.
Gardner-Webb returns to the pool on November 7, when it travels to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in a quad meet.
