
Game Preview- Women's Basketball Hosts Montreat In Season Opener Tuesday

BOILING SPRINGS- The Gardner-Webb University women's basketball team hosts NAIA opponent Monreat College in its home-opener on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
THE GAME
Gardner-Webb returns to Paul Porter arena for its home opener on Tuesday when it hosts Montreat College at 7:00 p.m. Montreat enters Tuesday's matchup 0-3, after losing its first three games of the season against Brenau University, Tennessee Wesleyan, and Union College.
Last Time Out
The Runnin' Bulldogs are coming off a 115-54 loss at Indiana in its season-opener on Saturday. Gardner-Webb had a tough time defending the three point shot, as the Hoosiers hit 12 first half three-pointers and totaled 16 makes from behind the arc. The loss is the fourth largest margin of defeat under Coach Reeves and the largest in a season-opener since GWU joined the Divison I ranks in 2000-01.
SERIES NOTES
This is the seventh meeting all-time between the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Cavaliers. Gardner-Webb has dominated the previous six meetings, compiling an undefeated 6-0 record. This will be the third straight year the two teams will face each other, and the seventh time in the last nine seasons.
Home-Court Advantage
The Runnin' Bulldogs posted a 13-2 record at Paul Porter Arena last year, which was tied for first in the Big South Conference for the best home court record. Since it joined the Big South Conference in 2008, Gardner-Webb has 59 home wins, which ranks second in the Big South over that time span and trails over Liberty, who has 67 victories.
Non- Conference Success
Gardner-Webb continues to have success in its non-conference games, and this season is no different. Out of the nine non-conference games this season, the Runnin' Bulldogs have winning records against eight of their nine opponents, including undefeated records against both Montreat and Tennessee Temple.
Big South Success
Head Coach Rick Reeves enters his 11th season as head coach of the Gardner-Webb women's baskeball team. The longest tenured coach in GWU women's basketball history, Reeves' teams have appeared in the conference tournament in 10 of 11 seasons.
