Women's Basketball Scores School-Record 118 Points In Defeat Of Montreat

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Candace Brown and Aunesha Williams each scored 20 points and seven players scored in double figures for Gardner-Webb in a 118-37 rout of Montreat Tuesday night.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (1-1) set school single-game records for points scored (118) and margin of victory (81), leading 70-18 at halftime and extending the lead steadily throughout the second half.

GWU also established single-game marks for field goals made (50), rebounds (71) and field goal percentage (58.1 percent), blocked 15 shots, pilfered 21 steals and had several individual highlights.

Brown just missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds, dished off three assists and had three steals. Williams came off the bench to knock down 8-of-10 shots, dished off three assists of her own and had four boards.

Christina McQueen added 14 points and nine rebounds, Chariah Harris, Olivia Parker and Alexus Hill each had 13 points and Kiera Currie had 10 points in a balanced evening of scoring. Parker hit all six of her field goal attempts and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Freshman center Gerda Paulauskaite blocked nine shots, grabbed 13 rebounds and scored seven points, hitting 3-of-4 shots in just 14 minutes of action.

GWU scored 66 bench points, held an 84-10 edge in paint scoring and owned a 26-2 edge in fast break points. The 'Dogs never trailed and led for good after scoring the first bucket 28 seconds into the game.

Gardner-Webb jumped out 19-2 to start the game, and led 35-5 just more than halfway through the opening 20 minutes. GWU had a 46-2 edge in paint scoring in building its large halftime lead.

The Runnin' Bulldogs made 50-of-86 baskets (58.1 percent), knocked down 5-of-16 from long range (31.3 percent) and connected on 13-of-20 free throws (65.0 percent). GWU pulled down 26 of its 71 rebounds on the offensive glass.

Montreat (0-4) shot just 14.9 percent for the game (10-of-67) and turned the basketball over 30 times. Forward Kristina Case led the Cavaliers with 10 points and Gabrielle King added eight.

Gardner-Webb remains at home for its next outing, hosting Davidson at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 20 in Paul Porter Arena. The game will air live on The Big South Network and wgwg.org (Jared Pankhurst).
