SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Gardner-Webb Junior Rokia Sacko and Sophomore Teodora Stanciu teamed up to win the Black Doubles draw for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the 2014 Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

Sacko and Stanciu started off their weekend by defeating the Georgia Southern team of Riepe/Norregaard in an 8-2 match. The two then defeated Western Carolina's Berriol/Ansari 8-6 before confidently securing the Draw victory with an 8-2 victory over the team of Andrews/Nuttal of Presbyterian.

Sophomores Catherine White and Mary Walker Mixon also enjoyed success in doubles play earning third-place in the White Doubles draw defeating Ramthun/Silva of Virginia Tech 8-5 before dropping their second round match in close fashion 8-7(3) to Slijepcevic/Krsmanovic from Appalachian State. They then defeated Western Carolina's Nielly/Maguire in a strong manner winning 8-1.

Due to inclement weather throughout the Carolina's this weekend the singles portion of the Terrier Intercollegiate was unable to be completed. Gardner-Webb had three players lined up to play in their draws championship match.

Sacko played in the Gold Singles draw defeating Megan McLinden of Western Carolina easily in straight sets (6-1, 6-4), and then got a win over Georgia Southern's Jordana Klien in a gritty (4-6, 6-3, 10-4) three-set match. She was scheduled to play Tamara Slijepcevic from Appalachian State in the final.

In the White Singles draw freshman Stina Magnusson earned a first-round bye and in her second round match she defeated Wofford's Lauren Reid in a hard fought three-set match (6-4, 3-6, 10-8).  Magnusson earned another victory though in a bye match in which she defeated Laura Ramthun from Virginia Tech in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). Magnusson was scheduled to face off versus Amalie Davidsen from UNC Asheville in the championship match of the draw.

White playing in the Gray Singles draw won her first and second round matches in straight sets defeating Francesca Norregaard from Georgia Southern (6-2, 6-3), and beating Wofford's Taylor Carlson (6-2, 6-3). She was slated to play Claire Mitchell-Andrews from Presbyterian in the championship match.

Mixon and freshman Sarah Rieckmann added on to the Runnin' Bulldogs winning ways with a pair of consolation singles wins. Mixon playing in the College Singles draw defeated USC Upstate's Sharlee Deshmukh in straight sets (6-0, 6-0), while Rieckmann defeated Sabina Jeresie from Appalachian State in straight sets as well (6-3, 6-1) in her Wofford Singles draw.

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team concluded its fall play this weekend in Spartanburg, S.C. with a very strong play. The women's tennis is scheduled to open its spring season on Saturday February 7th when the Runnin' Bulldogs will play host to Erskine in Boiling Springs, N.C.
