Cross Country Ends Season On High Note At NCAA Regionals

LOUISVILLE, K.Y.- The Gardner-Webb women's cross country team ended its season on a high note with a 34th place finish at the 2014 NCAA Cross Country Regionals hosted by the University of Louisville.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished ahead of fellow Big South schools, Winthrop, Longwood, and Presbyterian.
Gabby Cortese paced the Runnin' Bulldogs, finishing in 158th place with a time of 23:01.3. Her time of 23:01.3 was an improvement of almost ninety seconds (24:31.8) from her previous 6k time she ran this season at the Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 26. Just a freshman, Cortese was impressive all season long for GWU, finishing as the top runner for the Runnin' Bulldogs in all but two races this season.
Clare Cates also ran very well for Gardner-Webb finishing the 6K race in 178th place with a time of 23:13.5. Cates' time at the NCAA regional's was her best 6K time run this season, improving her previous time by almost a full minute (24:22.3).
Jenna Ford (24:00.4), Sydney Davis (24:58.4), and Michaela Williams (26:10.7) also competed for the Runnin' Bulldogs and each ran personal best times on the afternoon.
The times run by Cortese and Cates have found themselves into the Gardner-Webb record books, as they were the fifth and seventh best 6,000 meter times ever run by a GWU student-athlete.
