Toth Sets Pool-Record In 100 Breast On Day Two At Fall Frenzy Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C- The Gardner-Webb women's swimming team currently holds third place after 24 events at the Fall Frenzy Inviational, while the men's swim team is in fourth. 

Gardner-Webb's women's swim team fell down one position, as it was in second after Friday's finals, while the men's squad moved up one position, after finishing the first day of the Invite in fifth position.

The Runnin' Bulldogs women's team (688) trails second place West Florida by a mere 7.5 points, and is leading College of Charleston, who holds the fourth spot by 80 points. The men's swim team for GWU holds the fourth spot with 537 points, which is an 11 point lead over fifth place Carson-Newman and 307 points behind third place College of Charleston.  

The best event of the night for the GWU women's swim team came in the 100 yard breastroke as Toth and Byrum blew away the compeition finishing in first and second respectively finishing with times of 1:02.88 and 1:03.23. Toth's time was a new pool record, breaking the previous record which she set during the morning premlims. 

The Runnin' Bulldogs continued their momentum gained during yesterday's swims into today, finishing in first place in the 200 medley relay (1:42.40), which was comprised of Lili Toth, Charity Byrum, Mary O'Doherty, and Girogie Graves. Gardner-Webb continues to do well in the medley relay events, as it finished second in the 400 medley relay, that was swam towards the end of yesterday's finals heat. 

Following the women's 200 medley relay, it was the men's version of the same event, and the Runnin' Bulldogs finished in 14th place with a time of 1:37.21, which was just over a minute faster than their seed time of 1:38.22. Swimming for GWU in the 200 medley relay was; Tate Warden, Fred Simons IV, Andrew Knudsen, and Joe MacGregor. 

London Schumacher put together a great race, displaying her wide array of skills in all stroke disciplines, finishing the event in second place (4:26.47). This was the second great win for Schumacher in the individual medley events, as yesterday she finished fifth in the 200 IM. 

Luke Denman, Austin Toney, and Mason Hutchinson all qualifed for the finals in the 400 IM for GWU. The trio of swimmers for the Runnin' Bulldogs finished in 9th, 16th, and 17th respectively. 

The women's 100 yard butterfly was the next event swam on the evening and swimming for GWU were O'Doherty and Graves.  O'Doherty and Graves both put together impressive swims finishing in third and sixth place. 

The men's 100 fly saw Buckley Powell (College of Charleston) put together a historic swim, breaking the pool record with a time of 48.11. The top finisher for GWU in the event was Nathan Lile, who took fifth (49.17) place and not far behind the junior was Tyler Gomez who finished in ninth (50.05)

Following the record-breaking performance by Powell, it was the women's 200 free and Lillian Gordy set a new pool record with a time of 1:50.10. Powell had set the pool record in the morning's prelims (1:50.70), and lowered her own record by 0.6 seconds. 

Cameron Pou was the highest finisher for Gardner-Webb in the men's 200 free, finishing the event in 11th place with a time of 1:42.52. 

The final two events of the evening were the 800 free relay, and the Runnin' Bulldogs finished the night out strong with a third place finish in the women's 800 (7:40.37) and a fourth place finish by the men 6:53.24.
