BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Aunesha Williams scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 7 rebounds as the Gardner-Webb University women's basketball (2-2) team shot 46.6% from the field in a 73-53 win over North Carolina Central (1-2)l on Saturday afternoon in Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb handled the Eagles all afternoon on the boards, outrebounding NC Central by 14 48-34), including hauling down 16 shots on the offensive end.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were efficient from behind the arc, hitting a season-high seven three points and limiting the Eagles to just 2-13 from behind from long distance.
North Carolina Central had a tough time breaking down the GWU defense, shooting just 29.1% (16-55) from the field.
Midway through the first half, the Runnin' Bulldogs went on a 14-4 run to takes a 10 point lead (26-16) with 6:45 remaining in the opening period.
Gardner-Webb's bench outscored N.C. Central's bench 28-8 and converted 15 points off of turnovers as the Runnin' Bulldogs would take its largest lead of the first half, 17 points into the halftime break leading 37-20.
The Runnin' Bulldogs remained in control through the second half increasing its lead to as large as 28 on two different occasions, and would go on to defeat the Eagles by a 20 point margin (73-53).
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Tuesday when it starts the first of a five-game road trip when it travels to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State at 6:00 p.m.
