Hooe and Abee Earn NSCAA Women's University Division Scholar All-South Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Gardner-Webb women's soccer players Shelby Hooe and Addison Abee were named to the 2014 NSCAA Women's University Division Scholar All-Region teams.

Hooe was named to the Second Team All-South Region team and Abee earned Honorable Mention All-South Region merits. The honors mark the first time since 2001 that a GWU women's soccer player has earned the academic honors.

To be named to a Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.

A chemistry major with a 3.92 cumulative GPA, this is the second impressive academic honor won by the Hooe  this fall, as she also was named Big South Conference Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the year, which she has the distinguished honor of being the first GWU women's soccer player to ever win the award.

The Mechanicsville, Va. native led the team and set career-highs in virtually every offensive category including; goals (8), points (20), shots (45), shots on goal (26) and tied her career-highs with four assists and two-game winners. For her performances on the field, the junior forward earned First Team All-Big South honors and was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association Women's Soccer University Division All-State Team.

Sociology and Psychology double-major with a GPA of 3.89, Abee was one of four players for the Runnin' Bulldogs to play and start in all 18 games this season, and for her career started in all but one game. The senior defender helped to anchor a defensive core for Gardner-Webb this season, that posted a 1.41 GAA, which ranked sixth in the Big South and was the lowest in a season since 2010.

The women's soccer duo helped the Runnin' Bulldogs to an 8-10-2 record this season and advance to the Big South Conference tournament for the first time since 2011.
