
Women's Basketball Faces UNC Greensboro Friday

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Gardner-Webb plays its fourth game of a five game road trip on Friday when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. to face the UNC Greensboro Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Friday's game will be streamed via the SoCon digital network and can be heard on wgwg. org with Jared Pankhurst announcing the game from press row.
Last Time Out
The Runnin' Bulldogs are coming off a 55-50 defeat in the Big South Conference opener at Presbyterian on Tuesday evening. Presbyterian led wire-to wire in the victory. Gardner-Webb would fight back and end the game on a 22-7 run to take the 65-60 victory. The Runnin' Bulldogs would tied the game on three different occasions. UNCG looked like it had the victory all but sealed up with an 11 point lead with 1:23 to go, but two straight three-pointers by Dunovant and Hill combined with misses from the free-throw line by UNCG cut the lead down to three with 12 seconds remaining. Janie Miles went 1-2 from the free-throw line, and Olivia Parker missed the ensuing three-pointer as UNCG would take the victory 55-50.
Series Notes
This is the third meeting between GWU and UNC Greensboro since Gardner-Webb transitioned to the Division I level in the 2000-01 season. The series is tied 1-1, wih each team winning the matchup on its home court. GWU won 71-60 at Paul Porert Arena last year, and UNCG defeated GWU 55-49 in Fleming Gymnasium in 2012.
Scouting the Spartans
UNC Greensboro enters Thursday's matchup with an overall record of 2-4 and is currently on a two-game losing streak. The two losses have come against Navy (64-71) and Northern Kentucky (58-66).
The Spartans are averaging 62.2 points per game and are led by Lucy Mason, who is averaging 15.5 points per game on the season. UNCG has been much better scoring the ball in the second half, as it has totaled 206 points after halftime compared to just 167 in the opening half.
