GREENSBORO, N.C.- Freshman Lauren Oglesby set a new school-record in the mile (1650 free) to lead the Gardner-Webb University swim team on the final day at the AT&T USA Swimming Winter Nationals at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Oglesby produced one of her best swims of the season finishing the mile swim in a school-record time of 17:00.88, eclipsing the previous record of 17:03.08, which was set by Heather Roka in 2005.
" Lauren bounced back from 10 days with the flu two weeks ago to have a solid swim and break a tough school record, " commented Gardner-Webb head swim coach Mike Simpson. "We are proud of her for bouncing back from a tough setback."
Nathan Lile (100 free- 45.81), Lili Tóth (200 breast- 2:18.42) and Tyler Gomez (200 fly- 1:55.03) competed for a second straight day for the Runnin' Bulldogs, each putting forth a great effort on the final day of competition.
"Our athletes represented Gardner-Webb extremely well this weekend," commented Simpson. "We had some great swims; especially having to come back from break and a terrific team meet two weeks ago."
The AT&T Winter Nationals is the final event of the fall portion of the schedule for the Runnin' Bulldogs. GWU will begin its spring schedule on January 10 when the women host Georgia Southern in a dual meet. The Gardner-Webb men's team will be back in action on January 23rd when they compete in a dual meet at the College of Charleston.
