
Pashkova, Cockrell Earn NCCSIA All-State Honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Gardner-Webb placed multiple players on the on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Team for the first time in program history Monday, as junior Anna Pashkova (Iowa City, Iowa) earned a spot on the First Team and senior Tyler Cockrell (Tulsa, Okla.) garnered All-State honors for the second time in her career with a second team nod.
Big South Conference foe High Point University occupied five of the 14 available spots, with Appalachian State University garnering four selections. UNC Wilmington and Gardner-Webb were next with two honorees each, while Charlotte placed one player on the All-State Teams.
Pashkova earns NCCSIA All-State honors for the first time in her career, finishing the season ranked third in the Big South Conference with an average of 4.99 digs per set. A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Pashkova recorded 614 digs this season, moving into second on the program's all-time list with a career total of 1,701. The junior libero needs just 174 digs in her senior season to become the program's all-time leader.
Cockrell capped a storied career with the Runnin' Bulldogs with one of her best seasons this fall, leading the team in kills per (2.79), hitting percentage (.280) and blocks per set (1.07) to earn both All-Big South Second Team and NCCSIA All-State Second Team honors.
A native of Tulsa, Okla., Cockrell ends her tenure at Gardner-Webb as the program's all-time leader in all blocking categories and is tied for seventh on the Big South's all-time list with 477 career blocks. The 5-9 middle blocker finished the 2014 season with career-highs in both kills (343) and kills per set (2.79).
Gardner-Webb is expected to return 12 letter-winners from this year's squad, including rising seniors Katie Loftin (Ooltewah, Tenn.), Devin Judge (Marietta, Ga.), Tyra Montour (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Pashkova.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
