Sacko each picked up singles and doubles wins, as
Gardner-Webb's women's tennis team got off to a fast start with a
7-0 win over North Carolina A&T in the 2014 Spring opener.
Gardner-Webb (1-0) won all three doubles matches, as well as all
six singles matches, during Saturday's win against the Aggies.
After a default win at No. 3 doubles for Sacko and Ronia
Hutterli, GWU's No. 1 doubles pairing, Lunde (Oslo, Norway) and
freshman Teodora
Stanciu (Fót, Hungary), captured an 8-4 decision over
the Aggies' Scott/Colbert.
Gardner-Webb also prevailed at No. 2 doubles, earning an 8-2 win
from White (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Mary
Walker Mixon (Atlanta, Ga.).
The Runnin' Bulldogs also swept singles play. Junior Yasmin
Doost (Bray, Maidenhead, England) won 6-3, 6-0 against Kenya
Colbert at the No. 1 singles position, and Lunde won at the No. 2
spot. The senior cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jayla Scott.
At No. 3 singles, Ronia
Hutterli prevailed in her match against Kim Stalling.
Sophomores Valeriia
Popko (St. Petersburg, Russia) and Sacko (Montreal, Canada) won
at No.'s 4 and 5 singles, respectively, both by 6-0, 6-0
decisions.
GWU won by default at No. 6 singles to round out the
scoring.
The Runnin' Bulldogs hit the road for their next match,
traveling to take on Erskine (Burrington, N.C.) in a 2:00 p.m.
match on Monday, February 3rd.
