Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis Defeats Brevard, 8-1, on Monday

Brevard, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs swept doubles play and won at five of the six singles positions to knock off Brevard on the road, 8-1, on Monday evening.
GWU (3-6) opened the match emphatically, winning at all three doubles positions. At the No. 2 doubles position, Brendan Dempsey teamed with Tyler Macy for an 8-2 over the Tornado tandem of David Plasa/Guilherme Pophirio.
At No. 3 doubles, Ernest Alberch and Nicholas Lofrumento scored an 8-4 triumph against Brevard's Nathan Nicholson/George Finch pairing, and Benjamin Kaszás combined with Jonathan Walker to earn an 8-6 over David Taggart/Rory Northam at the No. 1 spot.
In singles play, GWU jumped all over Brevard (0-2) to run away with an 8-1 road win. Taggart defeated Kaszás (Budapest, Hungary) at No. 1 singles, but it was all Runnin' Bulldogs at the other five singles spots.
At No. 2 singles, Dempsey (Dublin, Ireland) stayed hot with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Northam. Alberch (Torello, Spain) won at the No. 3 slot, defeating Nicholson by a 6-2, 6-1 score.
At No. 4 singles, Walker (Elkin, N.C.) cruised past Plasa 6-0, 6-2, and Lofrumento (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) outlasted Porphirio to win 6-4, 6-2.
Macy (Elkin, N.C.) rounded out the scoring with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 singles spot.
Gardner-Webb returns to action for a busy three day stretch at week's end. GWU travels to play Campbell (2/22), UNC Greensboro (2/23), and Belmont Abbey (2/23) this week.
