The Citadel Takes Down Gardner-Webb On Friday Evening

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. --- Tyler Ziegler (Cincinnati, Ohio) posted a 6-3 decision at 149 pounds, and Justin Kozera (Taneytown, Md.) pinned his opponent in the heavyweight bout, as The Citadel earned a 33-9 team victory against the Runnin' Bulldogs in Southern Conference action on Friday evening.
Prior to the match, the Runnin' Bulldogs and head coach Daniel Elliot honored senior Robbie Golde (Charlotte, N.C.) in his final appearance at Paul Porter Arena. Golde has posted a 13-11 overall record this season, including a 2-3 SoCon record and one pin. The senior grappler owns a 39-56 career record, including a 17-win campaign last season.
In the night's opening bout, No. 15 Ugi Khishignyam rallied for a 6-3 decision against Gardner-Webb's Ryan Mosley (Stone Mountain, Ga.) at 141 pounds to give The Citadel an early 3-0 lead. Ziegler answered for the Runnin' Bulldogs at 149 pounds, sealing a 6-3 decision against Nicholas Kiter with a quick-strike two-point takedown to open the third period, evening the team score at 3-3.
Aaron Walked claimed the 157-pound bout for The Citadel with a pin of Cole Graves (Owings, Md.), giving the Bulldogs a 9-3 lead. No. 8 Turtogtokh Luvsandorj edged out No. 17 Austin Trott (Kingsland, Ga.) at 165 pounds, 6-3, snapping the redshirt freshman's win-streak at 11 matches to push the advantage to 12-3.
Terrell Forbes widened the margin to 15-3 for The Citadel at 174 pounds, earning a 5-0 decision against Aaron Rabin (Elkin, N.C.). Jack Duane earned a 9-5 decision against Zach Bennett (Franklin, Tenn.) for The Citadel at 184 pounds, stretching the lead to 18-3.
Marshall Haas pushed the advantage to 24-3 at 197 with a pin of Terry Henderson (Brevard, N.C.), before Kozera answered with a pin of his own at heavyweight, cutting the lead to 24-9 just 1:21 into his bout against Joe Bexley. Joaquin Marquez earned a 5-0 decision against William Anderson (Milton, Ga.) at 125 pounds, before a forfeit capped the night at 133 pounds.
Gardner-Webb is back in action on Wednesday, February 19 with a SoCon matchup against Southern Illinois - Edwardsville on the Campbell campus in Buies Creek, N.C. at 5:00 pm.
