
Runnin' Bulldogs Sweep North Greenville, Wingate for Perfect Home Doubleheader

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's women's tennis team earned a pair of 7-0 wins on Saturday, sweeping matches against North Greenville and Wingate during a home doubleheader at the Webb Tennis Complex.
GWU (4-1) got at least one win from all eight of its players on Saturday, beginning with a match against the Crusaders at 10:30 a.m. before taking on the Wingate Bulldogs immediately after.
At No. 1 singles, Yasmin Doost opened her day with a 6-1, 6-3 win against North Greenville's Lenz. The junior from Bray, Maidenhead, England then rallied to secure a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 win against Wingate's Evers later in the day.
At No. 2 singles, Jenny Lunde also went 2-0 on the day. A senior from Oslo, Norway, Lunde won 6-0, 6-0 against the Crusaders' Elliott and 6-1, 6-0 over the Bulldogs' Holland.
At the No. 3 singles spot, Ronia Hutterli opened her day convincingly, prevailing 6-0, 6-0 against Ribeiro. In the match versus Wingate, Hutterli (Duebendorf, Switzerland) outlasted Wingate's Tanik by a 6-3, 6-7 (9), 10-2 for her second singles win of the afternoon.
At No. 4 singles, Valeriia Popko continued her hot streak with wins over Beacham (North Greenville) and Thomas (Wingate). The St. Petersburg, Russia native won against the Crusaders 6-0, 6-0 before earning a 6-2, 6-3 in the match versus Wingate.
At No. 5 singles, Rokia Sacko stayed perfect on the year, winning 6-0, 6-2 against North Greenville's Kiessling before knocking off Wingate's Winston 6-1, 6-0.
At the No. 6 singles position, Catherine White went 2-0 on the day with wins against Gomez (North Greenville) and Parsons (Wingate). The freshman from Rock Hill, S.C., first won 6-1, 6-0 before earning a 6-1, 6-2 against the visiting Bulldogs.
In doubles play, the No. 2 tandem of Lunde/Teodora Stanciu earned 8-1 and 8-5 wins against North Greenville and Wingate, respectively. At No. 3 doubles, White/Mary Walker Mixon won 8-1 and 8-3, respectively, on Saturday.
Gardner-Webb returns to action Wednesday, February 12 with a 2:00 p.m. home match versus Western Carolina.
