
Maum Takes Top Honors, Gardner-Webb Ties For Fourth In Bash at the Beach Event

Gardner-Webb finished in a tie for fourth in the team standings, with a three-round score of 858. The tournament, hosted by Appalachian State, was played at the Surf Golf and Beach Club.
Maum finished minus-9 for the event. He shot a 70 in the opening round Monday, and carded a low round of 65 over 18 holes that afternoon. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native closed the tournament with a round of 69 on Tuesday. He finished five strokes ahead of his nearest competition.
Maum's round of 65 is the lowest of his career and the lowest for any Gardner-Webb golfer in 2013-2014.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had three total golfers in the top-25 individually. Vincent Blanchette (72-71-71-214) finished in a tie for 11th and Clement Kurniawan (73-70-74-217) tied for 23rd. Matthew Yelverton (73-76-74-223 / T48th) and Steve Jones (75-76-75-226 / T-61st) rounded out the GWU competitors for the event.
Gardner-Webb finished one stroke out of third place in the team scoring and nine strokes behind team champion USC Upstate (282-285-282-849).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will next play in Furman's Intercollegiate Tournament on March 22-24.
