BOILING

Triplett went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Beau
Hilton allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings to key
Gardner-Webb's 5-0 win over Rider on Tuesday.
Triplett
had an RBI single in the first and an RBI double in the sixth as
Gardner-Webb (8-12) posted its second shutout win in a row. Matt
Simmons went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles in the cleanup
spot - as the pair drove in all five GWU runs on the
day.
Hilton

hitless through 5.0 innings and allowing only a bunt single in 7.0
innings of work.
The
Broncs (3-13) got a pair on board via an error and walk to lead off
the sixth with Gardner-Webb holding onto a 2-0 lead. Leadoff man
Nick Richter's legged out a sacrifice bunt attempt for a single,
loading the bases with no outs for the meat of the Rider batting
order.
Hilton
recovered, getting a fielder's choice to cut the lead runner down
at home for the first out and struck out Greg Fazio for the second
out. Cleanup hitter Justin Thomas grounded out to third to end the
threat.
Hilton
retired the Broncs in order in the seventh, before giving way to
his bullpen after 87 pitches. Brad
Haymes and Matt
Fraudin closed out the game for Gardner-Webb without allowing a
run. All three hits in the game by Rider were infield singles, with
two coming in the ninth.

managed 10 hits, with Triplett (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Simmons
(2-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI) and Scott

Johnson (1-for-3, run), Hunter
Smith (1-for-3) and Blair
Huggins (1-for-3) also had hits for the Runnin'
Bulldogs.
