
No. 14 Georgia Rallies For 5-1 Win Over Gardner-Webb

ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs scored twice in the fourth and twice in the sixth to rally for a 5-1 win over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday evening in non-conference action, as Scarlett Harris (Sherrills Ford, N.C.) gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a third-inning lead with a solo home run.
Georgia (26-2) plated five runs on seven hits in the contest, while Gardner-Webb (10-18) scored one run with a trio of base knocks. Harris, Samantha Meenaghan (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) and Megan Champion (Knightdale, N.C.) each tallied a hit for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as Champion extended her hitting streak to five games. Harris drove in the lone run of the game with her second long ball of the season.
Jessica Childers (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) took the ball for the Runnin' Bulldogs, surrendering three runs on five hits and striking out two in four and one-thirds innings. Ashley Rhyne (Crouse, N.C.) recorded the final five outs for Gardner-Webb, allowing two runs on two hits in one and two-thirds innings.
Katie Browne paced Georgia with a pair of solo home runs, as Paige Wilson, Alex Hugo and Samantha LaZear each drove in a run. Geri Ann Glasco went the distance for the Bulldogs, allowing one run on three hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the scoring in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead when Harris led off the frame by launching a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left.
Georgia struck back in the fourth, plating two runs on a solo shot by Hugo and a single by Browne to claim a 2-1 advantage. Following a leadoff home run by Wilson in the fifth, Georgia added two in the sixth, capping the scoring at 5-1 with Browne's second homer and a run-scoring single by LaZear to complete the rally.
Gardner-Webb opens Big South Conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Coastal Carolina at 1:00 pm in Conway, S.C. The Runnin' Bulldogs and the Chanticleers will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
