CONWAY, S.C. --- Coastal Carolina held Gardner-Webb to five hits
in a Big South Conference doubleheader to open league play for both
teams on Saturday afternoon.
Coastal Carolina (19-9, 2-0 BSC) claimed game one by a score of
9-0 in five innings, before besting Gardner-Webb (10-20, 0-2 BSC),
6-0, in the nightcap.

one, surrendering eight unearned runs on seven hits. Ashley
Rhyne (Crouse, N.C.) took the ball in game two, tossing the
first two frames before Alyssa
Gutierrez (Wake Forest, N.C.) capped the afternoon with four
shutout innings.
Game One: Coastal Carolina 9, Gardner-Webb

Coastal struck early in the bottom of the first, plating five
runs to take a 5-0 lead following a three-run home run by Morgan
Noad. The Chants would add one in the second and three in the
third, holding the Runnin' Bulldogs to a third-inning single by
Pridgen, and a base knock by Harris in the seventh en route to the
9-0 victory.
Game Two: Coastal Carolina 6, Gardner-Webb

The Chanticleers opened the scoring in the bottom of the second,
pushing across four runs on a two-run single by Bri Chiusano and a
two-run shot by Jessie Winans to take an early 4-0 lead.
Back-to-back homers by Kory Hayden and Noad stretched the advantage
to 6-0 in the third, which proved despite a late push by the
Runnin' Bulldogs.
The teams will conclude the three-game conference series on
Sunday afternoon, taking the field at 1:00 pm in Conway, S.C.
