Runnin' Bulldogs Fall to Coastal Carolina, 5-2, at Home on Sunday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's women's tennis team got singles wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions, but saw Coastal Carolina take momentum from its two doubles wins to open the match, ultimately falling 5-2 to the Chanticleers at home on Sunday in Big South action.
GWU (9-10, 2-6 Big South) picked up singles wins from Jenny Lunde (Oslo, Norway) and Rokia Sacko (Montreal, Canada) at No.'s 2 and 5 singles, respectively.
The pair also teamed up for Gardner-Webb's lone doubles win of the day, winning an 8-6 No. 2 doubles match against Libby Scott / Romane Delay. CCU's Marie Babayan / Amanda Malatek pairing won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, and Kourtney Kowal / Honami Yasawa prevailed in a tight match against GWU's Yasmin Doost and Ronia Hutterli by an 8-7 (7-4) margin.
Sacko (Montreal, Canada) improved to 18-1 on the year at No. 5 singles with a win on Sunday. The sophomore outlasted Coastal Carolina's Mila Majtan to win 6-0, 6-3 and pick up Gardner-Webb's first point of the afternoon.
The match at No. 2 singles between Lunde (Oslo, Norway) and Yasawa proved to be hard-fought, with Gardner-Webb getting the point when Lunde came out on top in the super tiebreak. The senior overcame a one-set deficit to win 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-6.
Coastal Carolina got a No. 1 singles win from Libby Scott, a No. 3 singles win from Romane Delay, a No. 4 singles win from Marie Babayan, and a No. 6 singles win from Amanda Malatek.
Gardner-Webb returns to action to host its regular season finale on Sunday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. The Runnin' Bulldogs face Radford to close out the 2014 regular season.
