Cheerleading Tryout Info
March 31, 2014 | Cheerleading
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for showing interest in our program. Listed below is information about our team and what we are looking for at tryouts. The tryout dates for the 2014-2015 season are April 26th and 27th in the LYCC on Gardner-Webb's campus. We will start at 9 am on Saturday and wrap things up by 5 pm on Sunday. It is an exciting time to experience college tryouts. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
About the Program
We are a Division I competitive squad. We cheer for football and basketball. In football, we have played big name teams like Georgia Tech, NC State, and Wake Forest over the last couple of years. Unbelievable experiences getting to cheer at games like that.
We have been ranked as high as 2nd in prelims and finished several times in the top 10 in the nation with NCA in Daytona Beach. We currently compete in the All-Girl Division.
Tumbling
Standing handspring is highly recommended (all current members have them) and standing tuck is a great bonus.
Round off back handspring is a plus and round off handspring tuck or higher are greatly encouraged.
If you do not have tumbling you can still tryout, but you will have to show us that you have potential to tumble and sell us on the idea that you can be a great cheerleader.
Stunts
Flyers- need to have heel stretch single, but double down is major bonus points. Also, need to have the flexibility to pull numerous skills in the air.
Bases - need to be flexible in positions they can do and have the ability to work well with others basing all basic stunts and full downs.
Coed - Guys need to be able to hit toss hands - extension. Base multiple pyramids - Any single leg stunts are appreciated.
Attitude
Girls need to have desire to cheer for football and basketball games with a lot spirit. A real positive personality is a must.
Guys that care about cheering and work hard at practice will do well in the program.
Girls and Guys should have a "gym rat" mentality to constantly push themselves to be better not only for their own personal goals, but for the team as well.
Scholarships
We do offer cheerleading scholarships. $1500 base and it is increased $500 each year you cheer plus there is an additional $1000 dollar scholarship if you are on the competition team.
Cost
There is a fee that all cheerleaders must pay to be a part of the team. It will be between $350-$450. It covers camp, clothing, shoes, and etc. Scholarship money is awarded after the money is received.
Tryout Fees
$10 for Video Entry
$15 for returners
$25 for non-returner but no hotel
New Person needing a hotel for Saturday night $45
New Person needing a hotel for Friday and Saturday night $65
This helps cover judging expenses and meals.
If you are interested in trying out and can't make it because of other obligations or location, you have to let us know prior to tryouts. We will need information and some video of your abilities before tryouts to have a fair comparison to the ones that will be at tryouts. We ask that everyone please send a picture in with their questionnaire, so that we can start putting names with faces and it helps with keeping everyone straight when making final cuts. Yes, returners this even applies to you. Please make sure you fill out the following questions so we can learn more about you and your cheerleading experience.
