
UNC Asheville Downs Gardner-Webb, 5-2, in Big South Women's Tennis Action on Thursday

Asheville, N.C. - Gardner-Webb got singles wins from seniors Jenny Lunde and Ronia Hutterli, but UNC Asheville swept the opening doubles point and picked up four singles wins en route to a 5-2 victory on Thursday.
UNC Asheville (7-3, 2-0 BSC) seized control of the match by winning at all three doubles positions to open the match.
The host Bulldogs earned straight set wins at No. 1 singles and the No.'s 4-6 singles positions. Zoe Hamel took care of GWU's Yasmin Doost by a 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot, Amryn Soldier knocked off Valeriia Popko 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, Emily McNall edged GWU's Rokia Sacko at No. 5 singles by a 6-4, 6-4 margin, and Gillian Lewis defeated Catherine White 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 6 singles position.
GWU (7-4, 1-1 BSC) won at No.'s 2 and 3 singles resulting from resilient efforts from its two seniors.
Lunde (Oslo, Norway) won a three-setter at the No. 2 spot, outlasting Ericka Rivero in a tight match that ended in GWU's favor at 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
Hutterli (Duebendorf, Switzerland) won the second and third sets in her match at No. 3 singles to earn a comeback victory against Christine Boissevain. The senior won by a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 margin.
The Runnin' Bulldogs stay in Big South play on Saturday, March 8 to take on the Fighting Camels of Campbell on the road. This Saturday's match is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
