Ernest Alberch and Brendan Dempsey Earn Big South Yearly Awards

Charlotte, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Gardner-Webb's Ernest Alberch was named to the Big South's Men's Tennis All-Conference Singles list and Brendan Dempsey was tabbed as the No. 4 flight champion for the League, it was announced on Tuesday.
The pair was instrumental in helping Gardner-Webb (12-11, 4-4 Big South) secure its first winning regular season since joining the Big South Conference in 2008-09.
Alberch (Torello, Spain) built a perfect 8-0 singles record in Big South play while playing predominantly at the No. 3 singles position. The junior also contributed significantly in doubles play for the Runnin' Bulldogs this year, playing alongside Gardner-Webb sophomore Nikita Zverkov (Moscow, Russia) for a
Dempsey (Dublin, Ireland) went 7-1 overall in singles play against Big South competition this season, including a perfect 6-0 mark at the No. 4 spot. The junior is 17-6 overall in singles play this season and teamed with Jonathan Walker for a 3-2 No. 3 doubles record in Big South play this Spring.
In addition, Dempsey, who holds a cumulative 3.78 GPA as an Accounting major, landed a spot on the Big South's All-Academic team.
#7 Gardner-Webb, originally scheduled to play #2 Winthrop tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the Webb Tennis Complex, will have their match pushed back due to the inclement weather that postponed Tuesday's slate of matches.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are now scheduled to face the Eagles on Thursday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. in the Quarterfinal round of the Big South Men's Tennis Championship.
