Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis Signs Three For 2014-2015 Season

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb announced Monday the addition of three student-athletes in men's tennis for the 2014-2015 season.
Head coach Mike Griffith signed a class rated one of the best among mid-major Division I programs in 2014 by tennisrecruiting.net, the same service that rated the Runnin' Bulldogs among the top recruiting classes among mid-majors in 2013.
Gardner-Webb added Michael Perry (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central HS), Yaroslav Prostakov (Moscow, Russia) and Adam Schmidt (Lund, Sweden).
Perry advanced to the NY State finals as a senior in 2014 and is expected to add toughness and immediate firepower as a doubles player next season.
Prostakov was ranked as high as No. 5 among Russian U18 players and is noted as an experienced international competitor. Prostakov captured a pair of major doubles titles in 2013-2014 and should make an immediate impact with the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Schmidt is also an experienced international competitor, ranked No. 27 among Swedish U19 players and ranked as high as 12th in his age group nationally.
Griffith's team returns its entire core from a team that won 12 matches and finished 4-4 in Big South play last season.
Gardner-Webb opens its 2014 fall season on Sept. 19 in a tournament at UNC Wilmington.
