CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Gardner-Webb's Sarah Bertram,
Taylor Dodson and Mary Katherine Donovan each earned a spot on the
2014 WGCA All-America Scholar Team, which was announced
Wednesday.
The criteria for selection to the team are some of rate most
stringent in collegiate athletics, with a minimum cumulative GPA of
3.50 required for consideration. A total of 664 women's
collegiate golfers in NCAA Division I, II and III were
selected.
Bertram (Concord, N.C. / Concord HS) completed her first season
with the Runnin' Bulldogs in 2013-2014 and was just as
successful in the classroom as she was on the links – posting
a 3.72 cumulative GPA in her communications studies major (public
relations concentration.
The freshman had three of of top-30 finishes during the spring
season, including a sixth-place effort at the 2014 Country Club of
Spartanburg Spring Invitational in February. Bertram fired a final
round score of 75 at the 2014 Big South Conference Women's
Golf Championships in April – helping GWU to a fourth-place
team finish. Bertram moved up to 22nd position individually with
one of the event's top final round scores.
Dodson (Aiken, S.C. / Aiken HS) earned a spot on the All-America
Scholar Team after posting a perfect, 4.0 cumulative GPA during her
freshman year while majoring in chemistry.
A member of the Big South Conference's 2014 All-Freshman
Team, Dodson finished in the top-10 seven times in 10 tournaments
in her first season with the Runnin' Bulldogs. Her two best
rounds came at the 2013 UNC Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic in
September, when she fired a 70 in the second round and wrapped up a
top-5 finish with a final round score of 72.
Donovan (Hampstead, N.C. / Topsail HS) carries a 3.68 cumulative
GPA with a major in biology and also earned a spot on the Big
South's All-Academic team in 2013-2014.
Donovan posted a ninth-place finish at the 2013 Myrtle Beach
National Intercollegiate and fired a season-low round of 72 at the
UNC Greensboro Starmount Fall Classic in September. She posted a
pair of top-20 finishes during the spring season in 2014 and has
three career top-10 finishes in two seasons with the Runnin'
Bulldogs.
