Gardner-Webb head softball coach Tom Cole is pleased to announce the addition of Angel Bunner as an assistant softball coach for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
"Coach Bunner's credentials are extremely impressive, but her passion, excitement, energy and enthusiasm are just as impressive. She shared with me how blessed she is to have this opportunity, but the reality is, God is blessing all of us."
Bunner will assist with day-to-day operations and work with the Runnin' Bulldogs pitching staff.
This past Summer, Bunner played professionally for the Pennsylvania Rebellion of the National Pro Fastpitch, where she posted a 3.50 ERA and had 32 stikeouts in 68 innings of work.
In 2012, Bunner was taken 17th overall by the Carolina Diamonds, where she was the first Auburn Tiger to ever be taken in the NPF draft. In 2013, she appeared in 21 games, threw 102 innings and struck out 56 . In her rookie season with Carolina, she had a 5-8 record, and had a 4.01 ERA in 89 innings of work.
Prior to playing for the Rebellion, Bunner spent the 2013-14 as a volunteer assistant for Northwestern State University. While working at NSU, Bunner worked with the pitching staff and helped head coach Donald Pickett with daily operations. With her assistance, Northwestern State captured the Southland Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
During the 2012-13 season, Bunner worked as the Director of Softball Operations for Auburn University, where she organized travel arrangements and helped with on-campus recruiting.
Bunner played collegiately at Auburn University from 2008-12, where she was a four-year starter for the Tigers. She ranks fifth all-time in Auburn history in ERA (2.24) and batting average against (.226), is tied for seventh in saves (6), and is eighth in strikeouts (326). In 2011, Bunner had an ERA of 1.53, which ranks as the third-best single-season ERA in school history. She helped the Tigers advance to the NCAA regional in all four years and was named to the SEC All-Tournament in 2011.
A native of Fairless Hills, Pa, Bunner graduated from Auburn in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in history.
