Cortese And Lile Pace Cross Country At Gardner-Webb Invitational

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. –Freshman Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga / Athens Christian School) posted a 35th place finish and Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C. / Homeschool) finished 52nd to lead the Gardner-Webb University cross country teams at the Gardner-Webb Invitational on Saturday morning.

Cortese finished the 5K race with a time of 20:57.30, while Lile completed the 8K race in 30:39.83

As a team, the Runnin' Bulldogs finished eigth on the men's side, and ninth in the women's race. 

In the women's 5K, Letitia Saayman finished in first place with a total time of 18:08.43.

High Point took home the team title with a total of 41 points, as the Panthers had runners finish in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and 11th place.

Coastal Carolina finished second in the team standings, while Liberty took third and Campbell and Radford finished fourth and fifth respectively, to round out the top five.

In the men's competition Amon Terer (Campbell) took home individual honors as he paced the field with a time of 25:35.37, which set a new course record, eclipsing the old mark (25:48) by nearly 13 seconds.

High Point took home the men's team title, as they finished the day with a total of 28 points, which was 21 points ahead of second place finisher Liberty (49).

Campbell took third place (65), while Radford (122) and Coastal Carolina (132) rounded out the top five teams.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the course next Friday (Sept. 19) when they travel to Cary, N.C. to run in the Wolfpack Invitational.
