CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team posted a 13th-place team finish over the weekend at the 2014 Tar Hell Intercollegiate hosted by the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. on September 12-14th.

Gardner-Webb carded rounds of 287, 298 and 296 to finish with a three round combined total score of 881, +17, at the three-day event.

The Runnin' Bulldogs were led by freshman Jake Kennedy who shot GWU low rounds all three days of the tournament with rounds of 70, 73 and 74 for a combined total score of 217, +1 which was good enough to post a 23rd-place finish tied with seven others. Kennedy earned his first top-25 finish in only his second intecollegiate event coming off finishing T-34th in last weeks Golfweek Program Challenge. 

Sophomore Vincent Blanchette finished just two strokes behind Kennedy after carding rounds of 72, 73 and 74 for a 54-hole total score of 219, +3, and a share of 34th-place with three other players at the end of the three-day event. Blanchette lead the Runnin' Bulldogs in Par-5 scoring posting a 4.42 average finishing -7 under par for the tournament.

Red-shirt sophomore Chris Jones and senior Matt Yelverton finished just three shots away from each other after Jones carded a 221, +5, over the three rounds with Yelverton compiling a three round total of 224, +8, finishing tied for 46th and 59th-place respectively, while junior Clement Kurniawan turned in a final score 232, +16, to finish 91st-place overall.

The University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill took home first-place overall in the team standings as the host team finshed with the low 54-hole score of 838, -26 under par, finishing 23 strokes ahead of UNC Greensboro and East Carolina University who tied for second place with final scores of 861, -3 under par. 

The Tar Heels also took home the top spot on the individual leaderboard with Ben Griffin medaling shooting rounds of 67, 69 and 70 equating out to a final score of 206, -10 under par.

Gardner-Webb will return to action in just about a month, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will participate in the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at Mimosa Hill Country Club in Morganton, N.C. on October 13-14th.
