CARY, N.C. - Junior Claire Cates (Hillsborough, N.C./Orange High School) finished in 37th place and freshman Marcquel Woodard (Gainesville, Ga./Gainesville H.S.) took 74th place to lead the Gardner-Webb Cross Country teams at the Wolfpack Invitational.

The Gardner-Webb women's squad finished in seventh place while the men's team took 10th place.

Cates was the first Runnin' Bulldog to cross the finish line, as she finished the 5K race with a time of 19:51.9.

Freshman Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga/Athens Christian School) continued her impressive start to her collegiate career, as she finished 11 seconds behind Cates, with a time of 20:02.9

Freshman Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell H.S.) Michaela Williams (Nashville, N.C./Nash Central H.S.) and Rachel White (King, N.C./West Stokes H.S.) also had strong races for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as they finished with times of 20:47.6, 21:55.8, and 23:08.5 respectively.

Woodard ran a season-best race in the men's 5K, as he crossed the finish line in a time of 16:58.2

Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C./Homeschool) had another strong run for the second race in a row, as he finished in 86th place in a time of 17:19.3.

Freshman Mckinley Gray (New Bern, N.C./The Epiphany School), sophomore James Haynes (Charlotte, N.C./Clover H.S.) and Aaron Cronk (West Jefferson, N.C./Ashe County High School) also ran for GWU, as they finished the 5K race with times of 17:48.3, 18:04.5, and 18:53.4

The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the course next Friday (Sept. 26) when they travel to Charlotte to run in the UNC Charlotte Invitational, with action set to get underway at 5:00 p.m.
