
Gardner-Webb Crowned Spartanburg Courtyard Classic Champions, Cockrell Named MVP

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Tyler Cockrell (Tulsa, Okla.) was named tournament MVP, and Heather Feldman (Eden, N.Y.) and Anna Pashkova (Iowa City, Iowa) also earned a spot on the Spartanburg Courtyard Classic All-Tournament Team as Gardner-Webb were named tournament champions Saturday evening after posting a 2-1 record in the Classic.
The Runnin' Bulldogs kicked off the tournament with a straight-set sweep of USC Upstate on Friday before splitting their two matches Saturday, falling to Tennessee Tech in five sets in Paul Porter Arena and rallying for a 3-1 win over Wofford in Spartanburg.
Cockrell starred for the Runnin' Bulldogs throughout the Classic, totaling 36 kills and hitting a blistering .460 in Gardner-Webb's three matches. The senior middle blocker added 14 blocks to average 1.17 stuffs per set. Her best performance of the weekend came in Saturday evening's finale against Wofford, when she smashed 16 kills on just 19 swings while hitting .789.
Feldman dished out 111 assists throughout the Classic, averaging 9.25 per set while adding five service aces. Pashkova put together an outstanding weekend as well, totaling 75 digs in three matches and leading the Classic with an average of 6.25 digs per set.
Gardner-Webb closes out the weekend with two matches on Sunday afternoon, hosting North Carolina A&T at 2 p.m. and Savannah State at 6 p.m. Savannah State will play Wofford at 4 p.m.
